New AI features come to Google Workspace suite

Following the announcement of GPT-4 by OpenAI and Microsoft, Google has announced a set of generative AI features for its Google Workspace suite, including Docs, Gmail, Slides, Sheets, Meet, and Chat. The new features are part of Google’s broader vision of incorporating AI as a collaborative partner to help users achieve their goals.

What are the new features?

✅ Draft, reply, summarize, and prioritize your Gmail

✅ Brainstorm, proofread, write, and rewrite in Docs

✅ Bring your creative vision to life with auto-generated images, audio, and video in Slides

✅ Go from raw data to insights and analysis via auto completion, formula generation, and contextual categorization in Sheets

✅  Generate new backgrounds and capture notes in Meet

✅  Enable workflows for getting things done in Chat

Here are the examples:

Google is embedding generative AI in Docs and Gmail to help users get started writing. Google Workspace can help to save time and effort by generating a draft instantly. Users can then continue to refine and edit, getting more suggestions as needed.

Finding the right tone and style can also be tricky at times, and for these common scenarios, Google is adding new generative AI capabilities to help users rewrite. Google will also enable users to hit the “I’m feeling lucky” option in Gmail, allowing AI to try out a new playful voice altogether.

The new features are only available to testers for now, starting with English in the United States. Everyone will have access by the end of the year.

Google is still in a catch-up role…
